CONCEPT
This seminar will cover the important clinical and histopathologic features and variations for both common and unusual diseases of the female genital tract, underlining the most characteristic features. Case presentations will be used to highlight a practical approach to diagnosis. The overall aim is to refresh the attendee’s knowledge and to provide a conceptual framework that will allow the Pathologist to approach gynecologic specimens with confidence.
OBJECTIVES
At the completion of the seminar, participants will be able to:
- Understand differential diagnostic problems that are commonly encountered in gynecologic pathology and develop strategies to resolve them in routine practice.
- Improve the subtyping of gynecologic neoplasia, including endometrial and ovarian carcinoma, ovarian sex cord stromal tumors, and endocervical adenocarcinoma.
- Evaluate the utility, limitations and clinical significance of selected diagnostic and predictive biomarkers that are commonly utilized in gynecologic pathology.
- Summarize diagnostic criteria for precursor lesions for vulvar squamous cell carcinoma and distinguishing them from potential mimickers.
- Improve the grading and staging of endometrial carcinoma.
